Yahweh, The Name Above All Other Names!
Yahweh has placed His name in the Scriptures ~7,000 times. Unfortunately, multiple untold number of translators and transcriber’s have gone the way of the ‘world’ and replaced Yahweh’s name YHWH with LORD or Adonai or a very subjective “God,” to which I ask you, dear reader, which God/god would you or the ‘world’ be referring? Names of people, places and things are very important to intelligent beings. When we talk to each other, when we use proper words and names, we understand what is being spoken. On a personal note, how do you have a relationship with someone whom you do not know their name?
Encyclopedia Britannica has a small input to the History of Yahweh’s name and its use:
After the Babylonian Exile (6th century bce), and especially from the 3rd century bce on, Jews ceased to use the name Yahweh for two reasons. As Judaism became a universal rather than merely local religion, the more common noun Elohim, meaning “God,” tended to replace Yahweh to demonstrate the universal sovereignty of Israel’s God over all others. At the same time, the divine name was increasingly regarded as too sacred to be uttered; it was thus replaced vocally in the synagogue ritual by the Hebrew word Adonai (“My Lord”), which was translated as Kyrios (“Lord”) in the Septuagint, the Greek version of the Hebrew Scriptures.
The Masoretes, who from about the 6th to the 10th century worked to reproduce the original text of the Hebrew Bible, replaced the vowels of the name YHWH with the vowel signs of the Hebrew words Adonai or Elohim. Latin-speaking Christian scholars substituted the Y (which does not exist in Latin) with an I or a J (the latter of which exists in Latin as a variant form of I). Thus, the tetragrammaton became the artificial Latinized name Jehovah (JeHoWaH). As the use of the name spread throughout medieval Europe, the initial letter J was pronounced according to the local vernacular language rather than Latin (https://www.britannica.com/print/article/651183 Accessed 5-20-2019).”
Scripture tells us to NOT add to or take away from Yahweh’s Word:
Deuteronomy 4:2 – You must
not add to or subtract from what I command you, so that you may keep the
commandments of the Yahweh your Elohim that I am giving you.
Deuteronomy 12:32 – See that you do everything I command you; do not add to it or subtract from it.
Proverbs 30:4 – 6 – Who has ascended into heaven, and then descended? Who has gathered up the winds in his fists? Who has bound up the waters in his cloak? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is his name, and what is his son’s name? – if you know! 5 Every word of Yahweh is purified; he is like a shield for those who take refuge in him. 6 Do not add to His words, lest He rebuke you and prove you a liar.
Rev. 22:18 – 19 – I testify to the one who hears the words of the prophecy contained in this book: If anyone adds to them, Yahweh will add to him the plagues described in this book. 19 And if anyone takes away from the words of this book of prophecy, Yahweh will take away his share in the tree of life and in the holy city that are described in this book.
We are NOT to call Yahweh whatever we want, no matter what reason or how justified we believe ourselves to be in “preserving” His holy name. Yahweh can preserve His own name just fine without our help. What understanding must be embraced in this concept is that, Yahweh gave His name to men (mankind) so that they would know WHO the One True Elohim was. The Creator of even all the lesser Elohim. These lesser Elohim are those who serve Yahweh and the Captain of Yahweh’s Host, the Second Power in Heaven. These lesser Elohim are obedient to Yahweh and therefore, serve on the Divine Council (as we shall see later on in this article) or they have been disobedient and have fallen from heaven such as Lucifer has or have been cast into Tartarus, deep below the Earth surface. Just as the obedient Elohim obey Yahweh so should we, especially when Yahweh commanded us to:
Ex. 3:15 – Elohim said moreover to Moses, “You shall tell the children of Israel this, ‘Yahweh, the Elohim of your fathers, the Elohim of Abraham, the Elohim of Isaac, and the Elohim of Jacob, has sent me to you.’ This is My Name forever, and this is my memorial to all generations.
It is upon the human beings shoulders to NOT take the name of Yahweh in vain. Nowhere in the Scriptures does it command us to change His name in a generalized form so that we can appear more holy to our peers or fellow worshipper’s. In fact, Yahweh has all ready given instruction to mankind in the 3rd Commandment:
Ex. 20:7 – “You shall not take the name of the Yahweh your Elohim in vain, for Yahweh will not hold guiltless anyone who takes his name in vain.
The Scriptures has His name written all throughout the texts and we should use His name as declared by many writers of the Bible:
Gen. 4:26 – There was also born a son to Seth, and he named him Enosh. Then men began to call on Yahweh’s name.
Gen. 12:7 – Yahweh appeared to Abram and said, “I will give this land to your seed.” He built an altar there to Yahweh, who appeared to him.
1 Kings 18:24 – You call on the name of your god (Baal/lord), and I will call on the name of Yahweh. The God (Elohim/lord) who answers by fire, let him be God (the One True Elohim).” All the people answered, “It is well said.”
Psalm 116:13, 17 – I will take the cup of salvation, and call on the name of Yahweh. 17 I will offer to You a sacrifice of thanksgiving and call on the name of the Yahweh.
Isa. 42:8 – I am Yahweh. That is my name. I will not give my glory to another, nor my praise to engraved images.
Isa. 52:6 – Therefore My people shall know My name; Therefore they shall know in that day That I, even He that spoke, behold, here I am.
Zech. 13:7-9 – 7“Awake, sword, against my shepherd, and against the man who is close to me,” says Yahweh of Armies. “Strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered; and I will turn my hand against the little ones. 8 It shall happen that in all the land,” says Yahweh, “two parts in it will be cut off and die; but the third will be left in it. 9 I will bring the third part into the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will test them like gold is tested. They will call on my name, and I will hear them. I will say, ‘It is my people;’ and they will say, ‘Yahweh is my Elohim.'”
John 17:25 – Righteous Father, the world hasn’t known you, but I knew you; and these knew that you sent me.
Rev. 14:1 – I saw, and behold, the Lamb standing on Mount Zion, and with him a number, one hundred forty-four thousand, having his name, and the name of his Father, written on their foreheads.
By rejecting Men’s (mankind’s) traditions, I will use Yahweh’s name as Moses and all the other great men in the Bible have done for thousands of years:
Deut. 32:1-3 – 1 Give ear, you heavens, and I will speak. Let the earth hear the words of my mouth. 2 My doctrine shall drop as the rain. My speech shall condense as the dew, as the small rain on the tender grass, as the showers on the herb. 3 For I will proclaim the name of Yahweh. Ascribe greatness to our God!
Yahweh Bless you and yours:)
