A video of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s (D-N.Y.) Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) recently resurfaced, showing members ultimately calling for Israel’s destruction.
For years, DSA – of which Ocasio-Cortez is a registered member – has integrated anti-Semitic Boycott Divestment Sanction (BDS) campaigns into its political platform, including the use of the anti-Israel slogan, “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free,” which was chanted by the socialist group in 2017, essentially calling for Israel to be wiped off the face of the Earth.
“This is calling for the elimination of Israel,” Daily Wire’s Ryan Saavedra tweeted Friday, when he was the first to find and share the controversial video.
Can’t forget AOC’s anti-Israel roots
The anti-Semitic chant by AOC’s DSA group was brought to light in November when it was used by a [now former] member of the leftist news network often dubbed by President Donald Trump as being a major producer of “fake news.”
“[T]he controversy around this topic
when CNN commentator Marc Lemont Hill used the phrase in a speech condemning Israel before the U.N.,” the Red State blog reported. “He urged grassroots, local and international action to ‘Give us what justice requires – and that is a free Palestine from the river to the sea.’”
The predominant Islamic terrorist group, Hamas, often incites hatred and violence against the Jews by reciting the words of the chant.
“The phrase ‘from the river to the sea’ has been a rallying cry for Hamas and other terrorist groups seeking the elimination of Israel – as a Palestinian state stretching from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea would mean that Israel would be wiped off the map,” Red State’s Bonchie noted. “Hill’s remarks are the latest example of anti-Israel and anti-Semitic statements, [and the commentator] was eventually fired from CNN over the remarks, but escaped further repercussions as a professor at Temple University.”
More specifically, the battle slogan was originated by a key past enemy of Israel who led Palestinians as the chairman of the PLO (Palestine Liberation Organization) against the Jewish State from 1969 through 2004, while serving as the president of the Palestinian National Authority for a decade from 1994 until his death in 2004.
“The phrase coined by Yasser Arafat’s Palestine Liberation Organization calls for a Palestinian state in the territory where Israel exists – between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea,” WND explained.
Can AOC separate herself from anti-Semitism?
As the Democratic Party’s new de facto leader and the most prominent member of the DSA party, AOC’s connection to the group with clear anti-Semitic roots is being questioned.
“[One would] think it’d be a big deal that [AOC] directly identifies with a group of people calling for the extermination of Israel – and by virtue of that, its millions of Jewish inhabitants,” Bonchie asserted.
The double standard to which Democrats are reportedly held was then addressed.
“Imagine for a moment if this were a Republican who voluntarily joined a group that shouts murderous, anti-Semitic propaganda derived from terrorist groups,” Bonchie posed. “Would that Republican be questioned on it? Would they be asked to renounce their support? Would it make for two straight days of cable news freakouts on CNN and MSNBC? ‘Of course,’ is the answer to all those questions. We’ve seen entire news cycles based on a Republican simply speaking in the same hotel where there might have been a white supremacist using the bathroom at the same time.”
The mainstream media’s silencing of negativity generated by Democrats was further brought to attention.
“As it stands, I’d expect not a single media outlet to even ask AOC about this though, because the rules are (D)ifferent,” Bonchie concluded. “It’s no coincidence that antisemitism is tied directly into the DSA movement, and we’ve seen that spill out among the ‘fresh faces’ of the Democratic Party over and over. This is all beginning to form a dangerous proposition – whether our betters in the media realize it or not.”
The watering down of anything anti-Semitic by the Democrats was most recently witnessed late last week.
“On Thursday, the House passed a resolution crafted by majority Democrats that originally was meant to condemn anti-Semitic remarks by freshman Muslim U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.),” WND noted. “The majority Democrats, however, gradually watered down the resolution, omitting Omar’s name and adding a long list of condemnations of ‘hate,’ including ‘Islamophobia,’ white supremacism, anti-Catholic remarks against John F. Kennedy and treatment of Japanese Americans during World War II.”
Feigned concern and identification?
Even though AOC claimed last December to be a descendent of Sephardic Jews who fled to Puerto Rico during the Spanish Inquisition, her anti-Semitic sentiments are still questioned – especially with her continual praise of the BDS movement, and for essentially defending and excusing Omar’s latest anti-Semitic comments.
“In a July 2018 interview, AOC spoke about Israel as ‘the occupation of Palestine,’” the Jerusalem Post pointed out. “She further announced that she is definitely in favor of a two-state solution.”
The socialist Democrat also took to social media last year to call Israel’s treatment of the Palestinians a “massacre” – taking a clear side with the Islamists occupying the Gaza Strip and West Bank in their longstanding conflict against the Jewish State.
“This is a massacre – I hope my peers have the moral courage to call it such,” AOC tweeted May 14, 2018. “No state or entity is absolved of mass shootings of protesters. There is no justification. Palestinian people deserve basic human dignity – as anyone else. Democrats can’t be silent about this anymore.” AddThis Sharing ButtonsShare to FacebookFacebookShare to TwitterTwitterShare to EmailEmailShare to MoreMore10 Consider Supporting Us?
