Zechariah 5 (New International Version)
The Flying Scroll
1 I looked again–and there before me was a flying scroll!1 2 He asked me, “What do you see?”2 I answered, “I see a flying scroll, thirty feet long and fifteen feet wide. ” 3 And he said to me, “This is the curse3 that is going out over the whole land; for according to what it says on one side, every thief4 will be banished, and according to what it says on the other, everyone who swears falsely5 will be banished. 4 The LORD Almighty declares, ‘I will send it out, and it will enter the house of the thief and the house of him who swears falsely6 by my name. It will remain in his house and destroy it, both its timbers and its stones.7’ ”
The Woman in a Basket
5 Then the angel who was speaking to me came forward and said to me, “Look up and see what this is that is appearing.” 6 I asked, “What is it?” He replied, “It is a measuring basket.8” And he added, “This is the iniquity of the people throughout the land.” 7 Then the cover of lead was raised, and there in the basket sat a woman! 8 He said, “This is wickedness,” and he pushed her back into the basket and pushed the lead cover down over its mouth.9 9 Then I looked up–and there before me were two women, with the wind in their wings! They had wings like those of a stork,10 and they lifted up the basket between heaven and earth. 10 “Where are they taking the basket?” I asked the angel who was speaking to me. 11 He replied, “To the country of Babylonia11 to build a house12 for it. When it is ready, the basket will be set there in its place.”13

Matthew Henry’s Concise Commentary – http://biblehub.com/zechariah/5-1.htm
Zech. 5:1-4 The Scriptures of the Old and New Testament are rolls, in which God has written the great things of his law and gospel; they are flying rolls. God’s word runs very swiftly, Ps 147:15. This flying roll contains a declaration of the righteous wrath of God against sinners. Oh that we saw with an eye of faith the flying roll of God’s curse hanging over the guilty world as a thick cloud, not only keeping off the sunbeams of God’s favour, but big with thunders, lightnings, and storms, ready to destroy them! How welcome then would the tidings of a Saviour be, who came to redeem us from the curse of the law, being himself made a curse for us! Sin is the ruin of houses and families; especially the doing hurt to others and false witness. Who knows the power of God’s anger? God’s curse cannot be kept out by bars or locks. While one part of the curse of God ruins the substance of the sinner, another part will rest on the soul, and sink it to everlasting punishment. All are transgressors of the law, so we cannot escape this wrath of God, except we flee for refuge to lay hold on the hope set before us in the gospel.
Jamieson-Fausset-Brown Bible Commentary – specifically uses the term “extirpated” – verb
past tense: extirpated; past participle: extirpated
1. root out and destroy completely.
“the use of every legal measure to extirpate this horrible evil from the land”
synonyms: weed out, destroy, eradicate, stamp out, root out, wipe out, eliminate, suppress, crush, put down, put an end to, get rid of
Zec 5:1-4. Sixth Vision. The Flying Roll. The fraudulent and perjuring transgressors of the law shall be extirpated from Judea.
1. flying roll—of papyrus, or dressed skins, used for writing on when paper was not known. It was inscribed with the words of the curse (De 27:15-26; 28:15-68). Being written implied that its contents were beyond all escape or repeal (Eze 2:9). Its “flying” shows that its curses were ready swiftly to visit the transgressors. It was unrolled, or else its dimensions could not have been seen (Zec 5:2). Being open to all, none could say in excuse he knew not the law and the curses of disobedience. As the previous visions intimated God’s favor in restoring the Jewish state, so this vision announces judgment, intimating that God, notwithstanding His favor, did not approve of their sins. Being written on both sides, “on this and on that side” (Zec 5:3) [Vatablus] connects it with the two tables of the law (Ex 32:15), and implies its comprehensiveness. One side denounced “him that sweareth falsely (Zec 5:4) by God’s name,” according to the third commandment of the first table, duty to God; the other side denounced theft, according to the eighth commandment, which is in the second table, duty to one’s neighbor.
Rev 5:1 – And I saw in the right hand of him that sat on the throne a book written within and on the backside, sealed with seven seals.
2. Zechariah 5:2 – Jer 1:13 – And the word of the LORD came unto me the second time, saying, What seest thou? And I said, I see a seething pot; and the face thereof is toward the north.
3. Zechariah 5:3 – Isa 24:6 – Therefore hath the curse devoured the earth, and they that dwell therein are desolate: therefore the inhabitants of the earth are burned, and few men left.
Isa 34:2 – For the indignation of the LORD is upon all nations, and his fury upon all their armies: he hath utterly destroyed them, he hath delivered them to the slaughter.
Isa 43:28 – Therefore I have profaned the princes of the sanctuary, and have given Jacob to the curse, and Israel to reproaches.
Mal 3:9 – Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation.
Mal 4:6 – And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse. (This is absolutely interesting. Could this be WHY the two witnesses, especially Elijah, MUST return to Earth to “put off” God’s Wrath until the last 3 1/2 years. So their preaching and turning the hearts of the children back to the fathers is their main purpose for being here!!!)
4. Zechariah 5:3 – Ex 20:15 – Thou shalt not steal. (WOW, WOW, WOW. This IS the reason for Zech 5 and why this punishment is sooooo severe.)
Mal 3:8 – Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings.
5. Zechariah 5:3 – Ex 20:7 – Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain. (By robbing God, humans take the Lords name in vain.)

6. Zechariah 5:4 – Zec 8:17 – And let none of you imagine evil in your hearts against his neighbour; and love no false oath: for all these are things that I hate, saith the LORD.
7. Zechariah 5:4 – Lev 14:34-45 – 34 “When you enter the land of Canaan,1 which I am giving you as your possession,2 and I put a spreading mildew in a house in that land, 35 the owner of the house must go and tell the priest, ‘I have seen something that looks like mildew in my house.’ 36 The priest is to order the house to be emptied before he goes in to examine the mildew, so that nothing in the house will be pronounced unclean. After this the priest is to go in and inspect the house. 37 He is to examine the mildew on the walls, and if it has greenish or reddish3 depressions that appear to be deeper than the surface of the wall, 38 the priest shall go out the doorway of the house and close it up for seven days.4 39 On the seventh day5 the priest shall return to inspect the house. If the mildew has spread on the walls, 40 he is to order that the contaminated stones be torn out and thrown into an unclean place outside the town.6 41 He must have all the inside walls of the house scraped and the material that is scraped off dumped into an unclean place outside the town. 42 Then they are to take other stones to replace these and take new clay and plaster the house. 43 “If the mildew reappears in the house after the stones have been torn out and the house scraped and plastered, 44 the priest is to go and examine it and, if the mildew has spread in the house, it is a destructive mildew; the house is unclean.7 45 It must be torn down–its stones, timbers and all the plaster–and taken out of the town to an unclean place.

A Prophecy Against Babylon
1 An oracle1 concerning the Desert2 by the Sea: Like whirlwinds3 sweeping through the southland,4 an invader comes from the desert, from a land of terror. 2 A dire5 vision has been shown to me: The traitor betrays,6 the looter takes loot. Elam,7 attack! Media,8 lay siege! I will bring to an end all the groaning she caused. 3 At this my body is racked with pain,9 pangs seize me, like those of a woman in labor;10 I am staggered by what I hear, I am bewildered11 by what I see. 4 My heart12 falters, fear makes me tremble;13 the twilight I longed for has become a horror14 to me. 5 They set the tables, they spread the rugs, they eat, they drink!15 Get up, you officers, oil the shields!16 6 This is what the Lord says to me: “Go, post a lookout17 and have him report what he sees. 7 When he sees chariots18 with teams of horses, riders on donkeys or riders on camels,19 let him be alert, fully alert.” 8 And the lookout20 shouted, “Day after day, my lord, I stand on the watchtower; every night I stay at my post. 9 Look, here comes a man in a chariot21 with a team of horses. And he gives back the answer: ‘Babylon22 has fallen,23 has fallen! All the images of its gods24 lie shattered25 on the ground!’ ” 10 O my people, crushed on the threshing floor,26 I tell you what I have heard from the LORD Almighty, from the God of Israel.
A Prophecy Against Edom
11 An oracle concerning Dumah:27 Someone calls to me from Seir,28 “Watchman, what is left of the night? Watchman, what is left of the night?” 12 The watchman replies, “Morning is coming, but also the night. If you would ask, then ask; and come back yet again.”
A Prophecy Against Arabia
